William L. Blender
William L. Blender, age 90 of Polk, died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Osceola. He was born September 30, 1920 in York County to William M. and Lydia (Smith) Blender and was a lifelong Polk County farmer. A World War II Veteran he was stationed in the South Pacific and Asia during his tour of duty. Bill enjoyed farming, working with cattle and going to cattle sales. He especially enjoyed being with his family and visiting with friends.
On September 29, 1957 he was married to Goldie Van Ostrand at Bradshaw.
He is survived by two sons, William D. and his wife Sandy Blender of Grand Island and Paul and his wife Jeanne Blender of Eustis; one daughter, Connie and her husband Scott Dahlin of Holdrege.
Other survivors include his eight grandchildren: Nathan Dahlin of Columbus, Travis and his wife Kaley Dahlin of St. Libory, Elizabeth and Jessica Dahlin of Holdrege, Aaron and Aric Blender of Grand Island, Matthew and his wife Mickayla Blender of Eustis and one great-grandson Kellen Dahlin along with a host of nieces, nephews and other friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, two sisters and a sister-in-law Arlene Flodman.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Arborville Congregational Church south of Polk with burial in the Arborville Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Polk Fire and Rescue or to the family for later designation.
Visitation begins after 5 p.m. Monday at the mortuary with his family greeting friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the mortuary.
