Verna Buller
Verna Buller, age 88, of Lincoln, formerly of Henderson, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015 at Lincoln.
She was born Jan. 19, 1927 in Enid, Okla., the oldest of four children born to John and Sara Toews Kroeker. Although born in Oklahoma, the family moved several times during Verna’s childhood due to her father’s employment and she attended schools in Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. Although not able to graduate from high school, this gave her the opportunity to meet and enjoy the company of many friends.
In 1943 the family moved to Henderson. At the age of 16 she was baptized and joined the Henderson Mennonite Brethren Church. It was in Henderson that she met her future husband Lawrence Buller. Later that year the family moved to California but her heart remained in Nebraska. While in California Verna worked in fruit packing, cutting peaches and packing oranges which she loved to do.
One summer Lawrence came to visit in California and Verna realized how hard it was to let him go back to Nebraska. A wedding was planned and they were married in Dinuba, Calif. on Jan. 21, 1946. Verna and Lawrence returned to Nebraska to live on the home place where they remained for the next 44 years.
Verna and Lawrence welcomed three children into their hearts and lives, Galen Mark born July 14, 1949, Carleen Ruth born Aug. 5, 1950, and Lynn David born March 26, 1962.
Verna enjoyed gardening, reading, painting, crafts and visiting with neighbors and friends. She taught Bible School for many years and enjoyed working with children. Verna was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed sharing her love of God with others. She was an active lifelong member of the Henderson Mennonite Brethren Church.
After 59 wonderful years of marriage, Verna lost her loving husband Lawrence in 2005. Left to cherish and honor her memory are her children, Galen and wife Tannis Fox, Carleen and husband Robert Franz, Lynn and wife Karen Buller; grandchildren, Josh Buller and wife Eliza Stoker, Emily Buller, Adam Franz, Katie (Franz) and husband Jake Fisher, Nicholas Buller, Zachary Buller, Sam Buller, Ansel Carpenter and Wyeth Carpenter and great-grandchild Annabelle Buller.
She is also survived by her sisters, Vera and husband Andy Neufeld, Verona and husband Johnny Weikert and sister-in-law, Roberta Kroeker. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother Harvey Kroeker. Verna had a large and loving family and she leaves many nieces and nephews as well as cherished friends and family.
