Steven Howard
Steven M. Howard, age 56 of York, NE died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at his home surrounded by family. He was born October 30, 1962 at Pawnee City, NE to Harold and Carolee (Hutton) Howard. Steve grew up in Pawnee City and graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1981. He joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1981-1985 in Beirut and Granada on the USS Guam as a signalman. He started employment at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, NE where he worked for 16 years as an armed security officer. He retired and moved to York, where he enjoyed working at Cyclonaire. On May 5, 2018, he was united in marriage to Karen (Robison) Erdman. He was proud of his military service and was a member of the American Legion Honor Guard. He joined the First Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the York Lions Club. He treasured his time with his family, gardening, and time with his special dog, Sofie. He was brave and faced challenges with grace and courage. In his final days he and his family received love and support from Tabitha Hospice, and Pastor Mike Eickhoff, as well as many family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife Karen of York, daughters Camille Erdman of York and Kelsie Erdman and special friend Greg Stille of Lincoln, NE, sister Diane (Tom) Graham of Beatrice, NE, uncle Kenny Cordon of Chanute, KS, stepdaughter Nichole Jarred of Falls City, NE, and many cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Ron DeVorss, and sisters Laura (infant) and Dana Petty.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, April 22, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, York with the Reverend Mike Eickhoff officiating. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Cremation. No viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church.
