Shirley Doremus
Shirley M. Doremus, age 84, of York, NE, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 in York. She was born on February 5, 1928 in Ansley, NE to Frank and Esther (Peterson) Baker. She was united in marriage to Donald M. Doremus on August 26, 1946 in Belleville, KS. They made their home in York where they raised five children, four sons and one daughter. Shirley was a business partner with her husband for many years. She attended the First United Methodist Church in York.
Shirley was a loving mother who loved to cook for her family and she passed her cooking skills down to her children. She loved all animals but was especially passionate about her cats. She was also a collector of porcelain dolls, crystal bells, and Boyd’s Bears. Shirley had a strong faith in God and instilled that faith in her children at an early age.
Left to cherish her memory is her family, Randy Doremus and wife Sandy, Tammy Trofholz, Robbie Doremus, and Rick Doremus, all of York; grandchildren, Michelle and Chad, and Keri and Michael; great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Laura Ulmer of Oregon, Dorothy and husband Bob Hatfield of San Jose, CA, Marjorie Bolton of Fremont, NE. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; son, Ronald; son-in-law, Terry Trofholz; sister, Pearl Farmer; and two brothers Vernon Baker and Jack Baker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 31, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverends Art Phillips and Pat Norris officiating. Interment will follow at York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Wednesday and all day Thursday at Metz Mortuary. The family will be present to greet friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday evening. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
