Robert Cunningham
Picture
Robert ‘Bob’ J. Cunningham, 87, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on March 3rd, 2012. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday March 8th at the York Country Club from 2 - 5 p.m., with a tribute to Bob at 3 p.m.

Bob was born on April 28th 1924 to John P and Mary (Price) Cunningham, both of York,
Nebraska. Bob was baptized in a double baptismal ceremony with Mary V Meehan,
who he would marry 27 years later. He and Mary were classmates throughout grammar
and high school, graduating in 1942 from St. Joseph’s High School In York. Upon
graduation Bob joined the WWII Armed Forces serving in the US Army Air Corp, the
385th Bombardment Group from 1943 to 1945. He served in the European Theater
with his two brothers Jick and Leo.

He attended York College and Denver University where he studied business. He
married Mary V. Meehan, (daughter of Dennis and Doran Meehan of York, NE) in 1952,
settling in Denver, CO where he worked for Gates Rubber. He moved back to York
later in 1952. He owned and managed The Club House Cafe. In 1956 he started Kroy
Industries. He acted as general manager and CEO of Kroy Industries for
many years, retiring in 1988.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary and their four daughters: Ann (Dan)
Greenwood; Jean (Larry) Anderson; Jane (David) Cunningham; Laura (Lo)
Cunningham. Grandchildren: Ann’s daughters, Maggie and Kate; Jean’s children,
Jess, Janey, Kelly (Rhea), and Bob’s very special great grandson Rollie; and Jane’s
stepchildren Michael and Rachel. He is also survived by his sister Betty Cunningham,
and sister-in-law, Darlene Cunningham, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by many beloved friends and his parents, John and Mary
Cunningham; brothers Joe, Jick and Leo; sisters Evelyn Neville, Helen Geis, Genny
Tesar, Mary Cunningham and two infant siblings, James and Stanley; and his in-laws,
Dennis, Doran and Peg Meehan.

Bob had many loves, but most of all he loved his family and dear friends. He was a man
who knew how to have fun, from playing golf, to bowling with his buddies, to beating
them in a card game. He took great pleasure in music, dancing, watching sports and
discussing politics. For many years he and Mary enjoyed spending winters in Arizona
with friends.

During his life time of golf he had five holes in one, with two in one week. He had a hole
in one on the day his first grandchild, Jess, was born. No one was ever sure which he
was happiest about!

Bob will be remembered for his great wit and humor, his love of a good game, and for
for being the compassionate, generous, kind and thoughtful man he was.

Bob’s family would like to thank family and friends for their outpouring of support, Dr.
Erwin and his staff, the York Hospital Home Health, especially Renee, and Aseracare
Hospice. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to Adopt- a- Pet or the charity
of your choice. Private family inurnment at a later date.
