Randy James Campbell, age 66 of York, NE died Sunday, June 2, 2019 at York. He was born on September 27, 1952 to Cleo James “Tank” and Doris Marie (Wright) Campbell. He attended York Public schools, graduating in 1970. He then attended Kearney State College from 1970-71’ returning home due to the untimely death of his father.
Randy was past Disaster Chairman for the American Red Cross, assuming the position his father had previously held. He was a 25 years member of the York Elk’s Lodge #1024, past member of Duck’s Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Son’s of the Legion. He was given a special deputy sheriff appointment for York County by Sheriff Dale Radcliff in 1995.
He worked for 5 ½ years for the United Postal Service where both his father and grandfather had worked. He also designed and implemented the Enhance ‘911’ Address systems for York and Fillmore County’s. He then founded Highwater, LLC doing flood determinations for banks during the loan process.
For years Randy had done his best to help his mother and several special friends to make their lives better and more enjoyable. One of his proudest accomplishments was when he remodeled his home in 2004 and gave his mother the entire main floor as her own. He then created new flower beds so his mother could bring her 104 different hybrid daylilies plus numerous other plants with her when she moved in.
Randy had a great love for hunting, fishing, trapping and flower and vegetable gardening. His greatest hunting success was during the 2012 dear season having already had amputation of his right leg he harvested a 14 point buck with a drop line. He harvested Elk in Montana, antelope in Wyoming and Nebraska, and 87 deer in Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana. He traveled to 39 different states. One time he drove 4,895 miles in 15 days taking his mother all the way to Bangor, Maine. Another 12 day trip was taking his mother throughout the Rocky Mountains and the Black Hills. On this trip he caught a 5 lb. rainbow trout while his mother watched from the vehicle in a snow storm. His greatest pleasures in life were hunting and fishing with his father, camping trailer trips and cabin stays at Chadron State Park with his parents and taking his mother for long rides on Sundays and growing hundreds upon hundreds of flowers with her.
Randy is survived by his uncles and aunts Winton (Maxine) Wright of Benedict and Richard (LaMoine) Wisner of Montrose, CO, his cousins Steve Wright, Mark Wright, Dana Wright, Doug (Deb) Wright all of Benedict, Merle (Amy) Wright of York, Kent (Toni) Allen of Bradshaw and Craig (Lisa) Allen of rural Clarks, NE, Lance Wisner of Idaho, ChrisAnn Wisner of Denver, CO, and Jim (Cheri) Wisner of Colorado Springs, CO. Special friends include: Heather Wachob, Mitchell Field, James Schoch, Kyle Schoch, Tena Ehlers, James Wachob, and Methe children: Layne, Taytum and Kinsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Becky Jean Campbell, uncle and aunt Art and Ella Allen, and a cousin Tim Allen.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s favorite charity.
