Natalie Sue was born on October 28, 1978 to Pete (Quintin) and Sandi (Krumbach) Teegerstrom and big sister Toe (Celeste). As per instructions from Doctor Brouillette, she arrived five minutes after the Nebraska-Oklahoma State football game. She was baptized at the Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg, Nebraska.
Natalie became the middle child upon arrival of little sister Ashley. Remarkably, she did not talk until she was three, and after that, she never stopped.
She attended Willard Elementary school, York Middle and High School where she played legion softball, was active in 4H, and was a cheerleader.
Throughout high school and college, Natalie worked at Amigos where she developed a lasting love for the crisp meat burrito and cheesy pinto.
Natalie first attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk and later transferred to Southeast Community College in Lincoln and earned a degree as a Medical Assistant.
n 1996, Natalie started dating Corey Schlegelmilch, and her passion for dirt bikes and heavy metal music began.
Natalie worked at York Medical Clinic for over nine years where she enjoyed being surrounded by and caring for others.
On September 16, 2000 Natalie and Corey were united in marriage at the First Lutheran Church in York. They made their home on an acreage southwest of Benedict.
Natalie was active in the community, serving as a York High School cheerleading sponsor and on the Benedict Community Association.
Dietrich John arrived on June 12, 2008 and being a mother became her life’s greatest joy. Natalie and Dietrich shared a fondness for chatting, shopping and Lego’s.
In 2009, Natalie became the office manager at Agri-Products. She was an integral part of the business and would remark with pride that her job was to keep the guys in line.
Natalie was diagnosed with exosketal myxoid chondrasarcoma in May 2011. She turned her diagnosis into a positive by raising awareness for sarcoma and cancer research. She was involved in Relay for Life, Cancer Plus support group and was a solid source of support for many fighting a similar battle.
Natalie faced cancer in true Natalie fashion with both strength and humor. Even in her final weeks, her many visitors left her room with a smile and lighter heart.
Natalie’s courageous battle with cancer ended on February 21 at the age of 35. Although the world lost someone very special that day; she remains very much alive in the hearts of those who loved and treasured her.
Those left behind to carry on her legacy include: husband Corey and son Dietrich, age 5 ½ of Benedict; father and mother Pete and Sandi Teegerstrom of York; sister Celeste Homan of York; sister and brother-in-law Ashley and Jesse Crowdell of Seward; father-in-law Harvey Schlegelmilch of Benedict; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lonnie and Therese Schlegelmilch of Benedict; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sandra and Terry Wiler of Lincoln; nieces Paige and Kaleigh Homan, Stephanie (Dan) Waldron, Andrea (Johnny) Reyes, Alisa Schlegelmilch, Starlene (Stacey) Orlando, and Destiny Zachek; grandmothers Lila Teegerstrom of York and Jean Krumbach of Shelby. Natalie is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces; special friends Rachael Crowdell, Sherry Huffman, Jill Mabery and Michelle Schow.
Those welcoming her into heaven include: mother-in-law Merdeth Schlegelmilch, grandfathers Richard Teegerstrom, John Krumbach, and hound dog Wiley.
It was Natalie’s wish to have a closed casket funeral. If you wish to visit her (while her casket is open), please do so during Metz Mortuary visitation hours: Monday from 1:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The family will greet visitors from 7:00 p.m to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the mortuary and a luminary ceremony will follow at the York Fairgrounds. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 26 at 10:00 a.m. at the York City Auditorium. Interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery outside of Benedict. In lieu of flowers we encourage you to write a letter to Dietrich and share with him memories of his amazing mother. Memorials to the family.
