Mildred "Millie" Marie Bishop
Mildred “Millie” Marie Bishop, age 92, formerly of York, passed into Heaven on Monday, November 7, 2011 in Grand Island.
She was born on April 12, 1919 in DeWeese to Cecil and Margaret (Moorhead) Sheets. Mildred graduated from Nelson High School in 1936.
She taught elementary school until her marriage to Reece Garvin Bishop on January 16, 1937 in Belleville, Kan. This union was blessed with two sons, Ronald and James and one daughter Eloise.
Mildred will always be remembered for her love for her family, her great sense of humor, her amazing skills in the kitchen and above all, her sweet and caring nature.
She was very musical. She sang at many weddings and funerals, and played piano by ear. Mildred baked and decorated hundreds of wedding cakes for brides in the York, Lincoln and Omaha areas. She also taught cake decorating. She was a member of the former East Avenue United Methodist Church in York and the United Methodist Women.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ronald Garvin (Darla) Bishop of Grand Island, Eloise Kay (Ardean) Arndt of Lincoln and James Reece Bishop of Tallahassee, Fla. Mildred also leaves behind eleven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gwendolyn Whiteley; sister-in-law, Vernoye Bargen and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding Mildred in death were her husband Reece, twin sons born at rest, brother Gordon, sisters Fae Meyer and Evelyn Collins.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Metz Chapel in York, Neb. Burial will follow in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m., Thursday at Metz Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in York.
