Michael "Mike" E. Brooke

Michael “Mike” Eugene Brooke, age 63, of Stromsburg, NE, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019 surrounded by his family.
 
Mike was born to Jack and Mildred Brooke on May 24, 1956 in York, Nebraska.  He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Thayer, Nebraska.  He was active in sports in high school and graduated from Benedict Public Schools in 1974.  Mike was a man of many trades and worked in several industries, most recently in the maintenance department at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York.  He met his wife, Brenda (Peterson) Brooke, and they married on April 30, 1983.  They had three children, Ryan, Megan, and Allie.  Mike had a love for old western movies and 70’s music.  He enjoyed mowing, gardening, deer hunting, had quite the knife collection, and loved “teaching his kids a lesson” in the card game pitch.
 
Mike is survived by his children Ryan (Abby) Brooke, Megan (Tyler) Klein & Allie Brooke; granddaughter Grace Brooke; brothers Steve (Julie) Brooke, Brad (Kelly) Brooke, & Kevin Brooke; his sisters Teresa (Tim) Hoppes & Kelly Brooke; parents-in-law Bob & Harriet Peterson; brothers-in-law Tim (Jean) Peterson and Matt (Brenda) Peterson; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
 
He is preceded in death by his wife Brenda Brooke, mother Mildred Brooke, father Jack Brooke, and his grandparents.
 
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Dr. Heath Trampe officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery north east of York.  Visitation will be held from 1 – 8:00 p.m. Monday with his family greeting friends from 6- 8:00 p.m., that same evening at the mortuary.  Memorials may be directed to his family for later designation.
