Michael B. Chapin, age 59, of York, NE, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home in York. He was born October 4, 1954 at North Platte, NE to Milton and Freda (Gaedke) Chapin. He worked at Shaefer Trucking in Lincoln, NE in the parts department for 25 years.
Michael loved his family, both his immediate and racing. He participated in dirt track racing for 33 years and worked in the pits at Junction Motor Speedway since its opening. He loved old cars of all types and also enjoyed reading.
He is survived by two brothers, Laurence (Janet) Lombard of Booneville, CA and Butch (Ina) Chapin of Mt. Ayr, IA; sister, Jennifer Shepherd of York; nieces: Kim (Eric) Overholt of Sacramento, CA, Missy Ely of Lincoln, NE, Heather (Karl) Tormannen of Colorado Springs, CO, Heidi (Andrew) Austriem of Brookings, SD, Melody (Larry) Dotterer of Omaha, NE, Amanda “Amos” (Chris) Grooms of Omaha; nephews: Bruce (Beth) Willcock of Brookings, SD, Ralph Chapin of Yanceyville, NC, David Shepherd of York, Beau Connelly of Lincoln; and the Damn Dog, aka Speckles.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Kathleen and Kimberly.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Metz Chapel in York. Burial will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Closed casket visitation will be from 5-9 pm Thursday and 9 am to 9 pm Friday at the mortuary. The family will greet friends from 7-8:30 pm Friday evening. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
