Merna Coon

Merna Marie Coon, age 85 of York, NE died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at York. She was born on December 5, 1935 to C.A. and Mae (Hiett) Reisinger at Waco, NE. On June 7, 1954, Merna was united in marriage to Harold Pinneo at Waco. After Harold’s death, Merna was united in marriage to John R. Coon on January 29, 1993 in York.

Merna had worked as the manager of the S&H Green Stamp Store in York for 25 years. She enjoyed camping and loved all animals, especially butterflies, birds, and dogs. She liked to go bowling, but most of all she enjoyed family activities and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband John of York, son Ken (Vicki) Pinneo of Wheatland, WY, son Carl (Pat) Pinneo of York, daughter Myra (Terry) Hillmann of York, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Harold, granddaughter Debbie, great granddaughter Chelsea, and three sisters: Lois, Wanda, and Nonie.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Monday, January 18, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Reverend Dr. Michael Eickhoff officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, York.  COVID 19 Funeral Guidelines will be implemented with limited spaced seating (75% occupancy), 6 feet of separation between household units, and masks required.

Visitation will be held between 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the mortuary. Merna’s funeral service will be webcast live on Metz Mortuary’s Facebook Page. Memorials may be directed to York General Hearthstone.
