Marie Devlin
Marie (Mary Ann) Devlin was born to John H. and Mary R. (Kolar) Hain on December 20, 1920 in rural David City, NE. She died April 12, 2012 at the Hearthstone Care Center in York, NE. Marie graduated from Assumption High School in Dwight, Nebraska and attended Boyles Business School in Omaha, NE.
On December 1, 1945 she was united in marriage to Timothy C. Devlin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in David City, NE. Marie and Tim first lived in Wray, Colorado. They moved to York in 1952 when Tim was transferred to the York Post Office and their children were enrolled in St. Joseph Catholic School.
Faith was always first for Marie as she was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She also served as a volunteer for her children’s activities including Cub Scouts, junior CDA, pep club sponsor, school committees and fund raisers.
Marie worked for many years in bookkeeping and accounting for Lindell, Sylvester & Lindell, CPA and later for Gary Rowe Accounting. Her hobbies included card clubs with Tim and many bridge groups with special friends. She loved gardening and making her yard beautiful. Marie was also an excellent baker and cook. After retirement, Tim and Marie enjoyed traveling in North America and Europe.
Marie is survived by her son, Terry (Susan) Devlin of Omaha, two daughters, Mary Beth (Ken) Kunze of York and Barbara (Bob) Berry also of Omaha; sister, Martha Helgoth, David City, Nebraska, brothers, the Reverend Msgr. Raymond Hain of Lincoln, and George (Elaine) Hain of Springfield, Missouri. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Mabelle Meadows, Marie Jennings, Alice Ann (Willard) Pilkington, brother-in-law, Bill DeLisle, all from Colorado and many nieces and nephews. Ten grandchildren, John (Kate) Devlin, Matt (Kim) Devlin, Colorado, Ann (Jim) Kennedy, Illinois, Kay (Chris) Kunze, Barbeler, Australia, Karen (Clinton) Bohaty, Nebraska, Christopher (Jenny) Kunze, Iowa, Benjamin (Claudette) Berry, new York, Brianna Berry, Pennsylvania, Bradley Berry, Illinois, and Bridget Berry, New York; 12 great grandchildren and two on the way.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tim of 66 years (June 18, 2011), brothers Bohumil (Henrietta) Hain, John (Mildred) Hain, and brother-in-law Richard Helgoth; in-laws: Aileen (Scott) Tombaugh, LeoNora (Bill) Stokes, Patricia DeLisle, Frank Jennings and Harold Meadows.
Marie’s family wishes to thank the Hearthstone staff for nearly 4 months of loving care and Tabitha Hospice for their wonderful comfort the past eight weeks.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York with the Reverends Monsignor James Reinert and Monsignor Raymond Hain officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 3:00 – 9:00 pm, with a Rosary service at 7:00 pm at the mortuary. Marie’s family will greet friends before and after the rosary service from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Church or St Joseph School Endowment.
