Lenora Mabel Brogan
Lenora Mabel Brogan, age 82, of York, died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Lincoln. She was born to Frank and Lena (Putjenter) Grothe on November 1, 1928 in Wisner. Lenora graduated from Wisner High School in 1946. She attended St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in Lincoln, graduating in 1949 with her RN. She then attended St. John’s Hospital School of Anesthesia, graduating in 1952 with her CRNA in Anesthesia. On September 3, 1955, she was united in marriage to John R. Brogan in Wisner.
Lenora worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln in the Emergency Room and as a Staff Anesthetist prior to her marriage in 1955. She then became a stay-at-home mom until the youngest child graduated from high school. In 1981 she returned to the workforce as a Night Supervisor at the Hearthstone, thoroughly enjoying the clientele and staff. She retired once in early 1986, only to return to work at the Hearthstone later that same year. Her final retirement came in 1994.
Lenora was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society and Citizen Advocacy.
Surviving are her children: son Tom of Lincoln; daughter Anne and her husband Rich Selle of Pueblo West, Colo.; daughter Jane and her husband Tim Esser of York; four grandchildren including Alison Selle of Pueblo West, Colo.; John Selle of Boston Mass.; and Kathleen and John Esser of York. Also surviving is her sister Grace Ann and brother-in-law Robert Wordekemper of Beemer; brother-in-law Thomas and sister-in-law Jeanne Brogan of Norfolk; sister-in-law Verna Brogan of Madison and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wisner, Neb. with burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery also at Wisner. A Rosary will be said Friday evening at 6 p.m., at Metz Mortuary, York, Neb.
