LaVerne E. Juhl
LaVerne E. Juhl, 82, of Lincoln (former longtime resident of York and Shelton), passed away on Jan. 2, 2016.
She was born in Geneva on Dec. 17, 1933 to Reba Jewett Franz and Henry Anton Franz. She married Elmer C. Barrett, right after graduating from Geneva High School, and together they raised six children, in York where she was active in 4-H, church, and served as a Distributor for Omaha World-Herald newspaper deliveries in York.
LaVerne married Leslie Juhl on July 31, 1983 in Shelton and was blessed with many step-children and step-grandchildren. She worked as a waitress, until she retired and always very quickly became friends of her customers. LaVerne was very active in the Shelton church, sang in the choir, and participated in the ladies group. Faith, family, friends, food, and fun were of utmost importance in her life and she always felt blessed to have them all.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Reba (Jewett) Franz; sister, Marion (Richard) Nun; niece, Charlotte Fleming; great-nephew, Jason Barrett; grandson, Jason Barrett; granddaughter, Melissa Barrett and great-grandson, Zavier Colburn Rivers.
She is survived by daughters, Dolores “Kay” (Frances “Ed”) Gordon, Suzanne (Steven) Ferguson and Becky Gray (Steve); sons, Jon (Shar) Barrett, Stanley (Cindy) Barrett and Max (Sherry) Barrett; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 - 10 a.m. at Metz Mortuary in York.
Service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 at Metz Mortuary and burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in York. Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
