LaVerna Elizabeth Blum, 97, years of York, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017 at York.
She was born on July 17, 1920 in Cordova to Carl and Elsa (Winkler) Knudsen.
On Dec. 2, 1945 she was united in marriage to Clarence Blum at St. John Lutheran Church in Waco.
LaVerna was a master gardener, and loved her flowers. She loved playing cards, especially 10 point pitch and canasta. LaVerna loved children, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, crocheting, embroidering, quilting and needle work.
LaVerna is survived by her daughter Ruth (Rex) Thorne of Casper, Wyo.; sons, Dean (Verla) Blum of McCool Junction, Gary (Lori) Blum of Gretna; daughter, Doris Zuellner of Campbell. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chad (Becky) Thorne, Amy Scherwin both of Casper, Wyo., Kelli (Ken) Real of Grafton, Dana (Chad) Chrisman of Milford, Angie (Scott) Kreikemeier of Lincoln, Mitchell (Karri) Ahlschwede of Pickrell, June (Corey) Campbell of Grand Island, Joshua (Brittany) Blum of Seward, Jessica (Derrick) Calloway of San Francisco, Calif., Heath (Terra) Zuellner of Campbell, and Siera (Justin) Meyer of Glenville; 25 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Burton (Joan) Hoffschneider of Waco; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Andrew (Laura) Knudsen; daughter, Carol (Gary) Ahlschwede; son-in-law, Joel Zuellner; great-grandsons, Brett Thorne and Clayton Real.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Waco, with the Reverend Matthew Mau officiating. Interment to follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held between 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, and 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday.
Memorials may be directed to the Clayton Real Memorial Learning Barn or to the St. John Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
