Kenneth Marven Turner
Kenneth Marven Turner, age 82 of York, NE, died Wednesday, November 30, 2022 in Geneva, NE. He was born on September 26, 1940 to Marven and Nellie (Meikle) Turner in Afton, WY. On August 29, 1963, he was sealed to his bride, Sandra Lee Peck, in Idaho Falls, ID at the LDS Temple. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Ken grew up in Wyoming with his parents, and two brothers, Doyle and Joe, and one sister, Darlene. The high mountains, rippling streams and forest animals were his loves. His father ran a sawmill where Ken would help, even in the coldest of winters. The wind blowing down the steep canyons would herald the season of deep snow and then the light of Spring mornings. Ken was a part of all this and the memories lived forever in his soul.
He was a hard worker and he would always sacrifice his time for his five children, David (Becky), Robert (Tammy), Kellye (Silas), James (Julie), and Stacie (Bart). His career became the United States Postal Service where he worked for 39 years, in Mesa, AZ and Grand Island, NE. However, he had his Masters Degree in Archeology and worked many years in college fighting forest fires for the Forest Service. He attended college in Pocatello, ID at Idaho State University, and also in Logan, UT, at Utah State University. Ken also worked an assistantship doing excavations for prehistoric civilizations in the Western United States. His specialty was identifying and logging ancient arrowheads.
Ken loved to climb mountain peaks and did so with his wife, Sandy. Life in nature brought him close to God, and when his son, David lived in Canada, Ken was able to enjoy the fresh cool air of the Canadian Rockies and traveling and exploring there. With his son James, they traveled many, many miles to destinations near and far to the “Scottish Highland Games” and Mountain Men Rendezvous. His daughters, Kellye and Stacie shared priceless memories of places and things attended together, most of all the “Daddy/Daughter” talks while traveling down the road of life. He enjoyed genealogy, reading, bagpipes, and studying Scottish heritage. But most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family.
His legacy will live on in the lives of his children, his sister, his wife and his friends.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Sandra of York, his children David (Becky) Turner of Queen Creek, AZ, Robert (Tami) Turner of Stromsburg, NE, Kellye (Silas) Dungy, James (Julie) Turner, and Stacie (Bart) Beutler all of York, 23 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and his sister Darlene Holt of Phoenix, AZ.
