John B. "Jack" Van Patten
John B. “Jack” Van Patten, age 82, of York, died Sunday March 23, 2014 at York. He was born March 18, 1932 at Grafton to Charles and Nellie (Foltz) Van Patten.
John served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years. Later he worked at Sahling Kenworth in York. He was united in marriage to Shirley Collingham on Oct. 23, 1954 at Cheyenne Wyo.
John was a member of the First Christian Church in York and the Shriners and Masonic Lodge. He was an avid reader, enjoyed playing golf, bowling, camping, 5th wheel traveling, motorcycles, and woodworking. John also had a large collection of Garfield memorabilia.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of York; three sons, John Van Patten Jr. and wife Sipha of Las Vegas, N.V., Ronald Van Patten and wife Janice of York and Dale Van Patten of Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Betty Clark of Geneva; brother-in-law, Dick Greaber of Los Alamitos, Calif.; nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, four brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the First Christian Church in York. Inurnment will be at a later date. Cremation/no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be directed to the church.
