Jerry Apetz
Hi…..Jerry Apetz here. Today is Monday, September 16, 2013. I assume if you’re reading this, I have finished my last and final journey. Not very often does God give us a chance to know ahead of time that the end life on earth will be coming, so I decided to take advantage of this and give my own life story or obituary I think they call it.
I was born July 6th, 1951 to Delbert and Leona (Zech) Apetz in York, NE. We moved to Hawthorne, CA for a few years and then moved back to York. I went to Emmanuel Lutheran School and graduated from York High School in 1969.
I started to work for Standard Brands egg plant right after high school and then got a job with Consumers Public Power District in September of 1969 and finished my career with Nebraska Public Power District after 41 great years.
I married my childhood sweetheart (she didn’t know that back then) Dixie Hollman on November 6, 1971. We had two children, Amy and Adam. Amy married Earl Wright and gave us two wonderful grandkids, Paige and Derik. Adam just hasn’t been in the settle down mode yet so he is still unattached if any of you wonderful ladies were looking for a good catch.
I loved music and playing my trumpet, tuba and bugles. Joint band and football players were told by our football coach that you can play football or be in the band but not both so, knowing that riding in a bus with good smelling band members was way better than a stinky sweaty bus bull of football players, several of us chose band.
I was also in a 1960’s band for a while called the Prolific Aggregation and joined the York American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp. I was a member of the York Eagles Club and the Masonic Lodge.
Family is very important to me. I don’t know what my life would have been without a strong hard working and caring family. My wife, children and grandchildren are the light of my life. I will also be there for you as you were for me. I love you all so much.
I also had another family, a family of friends. All of them were always there when I needed them and I am so grateful to all of them for that. I will miss you and all the fun we had together.
I am survived by my wife of 41 years, Dixie of York; daughter Amy, husband Earl Wright and their children Paige and Derik of Omaha, NE; son Adam Apetz of Lincoln, NE; brother David Apetz of Omaha, NE; aunts and uncles, Alvin and Luella Apetz, Lee and Wanda Apetz, and Darlene Senff all of York; nieces and nephews. I was preceded in death by my parents, Delbert and Leona Apetz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2013 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Terry Cosier officiating. Interment will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 pm Wednesday and 9 am-9 pm Thursday at Metz Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 7-8:30 Thursday evening. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Condolences may be emailed to Metz Mortuary Messages will be given to the family.
