James R. "Jim" Jacobsen
James R. “Jim” Jacobsen, age 72, of McCool Jct., died Friday, May 2, 2014 on the farm where he was born and raised. He was born June 30, 1941 at McCool, the fourth of seven children to Arthur and Edna (Halverson) Jacobsen.
Jim served in the US Army during the Viet Nam War, upon returning he worked for Cunningham Construction and later lived and farmed on the home place. He was united in marriage to Glenda Folts on Nov. 6, 1966 at York. Four children, Jill, James A., Jared, and Justin, were born to this union.
Jim was a member of the United Methodist Church in McCool. He was also a member of the Ronald Porter Post 341, where he served as a prior Post Commander, the Forty & Eight and the VFW. He served on the Farmer’s Coop Board, the Cemetery Board, and the McCool Jct. School Board. He cherished his family most of all and adored his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Glenda of McCool Jct.; daughter, Jill and husband Mark Sears of Norfolk; sons, James A. and wife Irma of Hickman, Jared and wife Rachel and Justin and wife Stephanie of York; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Chuck and wife Joan Jacobsen and Bill Jacobsen of McCool; sister, Pat and husband Arlo Kranau of Blue Hill and sister-in-law, Vicki Jacobsen of McCool.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Dean and Bob and sister, Janet McCormick.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in York. Interment with military honors will be at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, east of McCool. Visitation will be from 5-9 Monday and from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Metz Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Memorials may be directed to the McCool Junction American Legion Ronald Porter Post #341 or to the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Fund.
