James Barber
James “Jim” W. Barber, age 66 of York, NE died Sunday, January 15, 2012 at his home surrounded by family. He was born August 30, 1945 to Ralph C. and Gladys (Reed) Barber in Beatrice, NE. On March 31, 1984, Jim was united in marriage to Gretchen Rider in Lincoln, NE. Jim worked in construction and was also a minister. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and most of all, being a grandpa.
Jim is survived by his wife Gretchen of York; two sons: Jeff (Galina) Jorgensen of Lincoln, NE and David Barber of Broken Arrow, OK; three daughters: Carol (Mike) Lamb of Westerville, OH, Jamie (Jeff) Davis of Waverly, OH, and Sara Barber of York; and eight grandchildren. Jim is also survived by three brothers: Ken Barber of Lincoln, Ron (Carol) Barber of Diller, NE, and Harry (Roberta) Powell of Ft. Collins, CO; two sisters: Wauneta Brown of Fairbury, NE and Carol (Jack) Price of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Metz Chapel in York with John Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, York. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
