J. Genevieve "Gen" Johnson
J. Genevieve “Gen” Johnson, 94, passed away July 31, 2022 in York, NE. She was born in Fillmore County, near McCool Junction, February 20, 1928, to Willard Ernest and Francel Airth (Barr) Philson. She attended School District #13 and graduated from York High School in 1945. Gen married Dwight Keith Johnson on March 9, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church in York.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sharon Wilson of Oklahoma City, OK, and Kathleen (Eric) Stasch of Pierre, SD; son Keith (Lou Ann) Johnson of West Lafayette, IN; seven grandchildren, Tracy (Mike) Boren, Nicole Stasch, Bryce (Lacey) Stasch, Crystal Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Kristen Johnson, and Evan Johnson; great granddaughters Megan Boren and Penny Stasch; step great granddaughters Patricia Latham and Summer Olson; great grandsons Bradley and Charlie Stasch. Also surviving are brothers Clinton (Ann) Philson of York, and Maurice Philson of Newport News, VA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is also survived by sister-in-law Janis (Richard) George. Gen was the American mother to Reli from Austria and Jill from Australia, both foreign exchange students who “took part of my heart”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Myrvan Philson, sister Gwen and brother-in-law Norman Ogden, sister-in-law Von (Maurice) Philson, brother-in-law Victor I. and sister-in-law Dorothy Johnson, and brother-in-law Richard George.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 5, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in York, with the Reverend Dr. Michael Eickhoff officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 4th, 2022, from 1-8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6:30pm-8pm at Metz Mortuary. Interment is at Bethesda Lutheran Cemetery, on Hwy 34 west of York.
Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Women of the First Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. Chapter A (ELF project), and Blue Valley Food Pantry.
