Helen J. Wempe
Helen J. Wempe, age 93 of York, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 at York.
She was born Sept. 20, 1921 at Vermillion, Kan. to Matthew and Laura (Gehling) Huber. Following high school, Helen earned a special degree from Kansas State University in Home Management and Design.
On July 3, 1944, Helen and Charles M. Wempe were united in marriage at Pensacola, Fla. The union was blessed with three sons, Kevin, Michael and James. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in York, and held multiple offices in St. Joseph Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years, Charles Wempe, DVM, of York; two sons, Michael J. Wempe, MD and wife Karen of Colorado Springs, Colo. and their children Lauren VanDam of Denver, Colo. and Jonathan Wempe of Frisco, Colo. and James Wempe and wife Regina of Colorado Springs, Colo. and the children of the late Kevin Wempe, Amanda Larson of Wichita, Kan. and Valerie Cain of Rose Hill, Kan. Preceding her in death were two sisters; seven brothers and son, Kevin Wempe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in York with Monsignor James Reinert officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery southeast of York. A Rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at Metz Mortuary.
