Harold Albert Barth
Harold Albert Barth, 73, of York died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Lincoln. He was born May 19, 1936 at Douglas, Wyo., to Albert Frank and Edna Evelyn (Beattie) Barth and was baptized at the Douglas Lutheran Church at three months of age. Harold lived at Douglas on a ranch until he was 14 years old when he went to live with his Aunt Bertha Meyer in York.
He graduated from the eighth grade and was confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. His family then moved to Grafton and there they started farming. In 1951, Harold graduated from Grafton High school and started farming with his father.
On Dec. 3, 1960, he was married to Evangeline (Vangie) Duer and to this union three children were born: Teresa, Deann and Denise.
Prior to retiring in 2000, Harold farmed and fed out cattle and also had numerous young men helping him year round expanding his operation. Vangie was instrumental in helping her husband in his farming career working alongside her husband over the years.
Harold was formerly a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at Grafton for 50 years serving on the Church Council. In 2001, he and Vangie joined Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York.
Harold sold Archer Oil for over 25 years and worked for Rob-Se-Co for many years as well. He received many awards during his life. His family sponsored two Japanese boys through the 4-H Foundation for two years. He also served on the board of the Fairmont and Exeter Co-op.
Harold is survived by his wife, Vangie of York; two daughters, Deann and her husband David Benningfield of Kearney, Mo., and their children, Jordan and Adriel and Denise Barth of San Diego, Calif. Also surviving is his brother-in-law Charles Hickstein of Pahrump, Nev., his niece, Debbie and her husband, Steve Holinger of Camarillo, Calif., and nephews, Charles Hickstein Jr. of Camarillo, Calif., and David Hickstein of Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Teresa; and his sister, Mary.
Memorial services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, York. Mr. Barth has been cremated, so there will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
