Gladys Wiemer, age 89 of York, NE died Friday, May 21, 2021 at Lincoln, NE. She was born December 12, 1931 near Utica, NE to Carl and Vivian (Gardiner) Rieger. On August 21, 1949, she was married to Roy Wiemer at St. John's Lutheran Church south of Waco, NE. Gladys was a long-time York area cook and bartender working at the Club House and the York Elks Lodge. Gladys enjoyed her card club, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling with her family.
She is survived by five daughters; Sharon Wilson and Wanda Wiemer both of Lincoln, Vicky (Donald) Tracy of Grand Island, NE, Bev (Gary) Quiring of Henderson, NE Teresa (Andy) Burr of Dunbar, NE; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law Valora Rieger of Independence, MO; Maxine Rieger of Gresham, NE; and Eleanor Wiemer of Idaho Falls, ID.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Robert and Don Rieger, sister Janice Wiemer, son-in-law Gary Wilson, and great-granddaughter Michala Cheek.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at the Metz Chapel in York, and will be live-streamed on Metz Mortuary Facebook page. Burial will be in the Waco City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the mortuary with her family greeting friends from 6-7:30 p.m., that same evening. Memorials may be directed to the York Fire Department; York Elks Lodge Christmas Charities Program; or to Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln.
