Geraldine Friesen
Geraldine D. Friesen, age 90 of Henderson, NE died Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Henderson Care Center.
She was born October 13, 1927, south of Henderson to Dietrich and Marie (Dueck) Epp. She was baptized upon her profession of faith by Reverend A.W. Friesen and became a member of Bethesda Mennonite Church on May 20, 1945. Geraldine grew up near Henderson and attended Dist. 11 for elementary school. After graduating from Henderson High School in 1945, she married Alden G. Friesen on November 15, 1945.
Geraldine was a homemaker and was very active in helping on the farm she and Alden lived on near York, NE. When they moved to Henderson in 1963, she worked alongside Alden in his businesses for many years. Geraldine loved to travel, especially to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading and when her eyesight failed in her later years, she could always be found listening to an audio book. Geraldine spent the last 5 years of her life at the Henderson Care Center, where she joyfully interacted and joked with the staff. She enjoyed and appreciated visits by friends and family.
Geraldine is survived by her children, sons; Orin (Bekki) Friesen of Benton, KS, and Dexter (Donna) Friesen of Carthage, MO. Her daughters include; Gerry Boehr of Phoenix, AZ and Nancy (Greg) Baltzell of Kearney, NE; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Dennis D. Epp of Henderson, her sister Jane Hershberger of Newton, KS , as well nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Calvin D. Friesen and her grandson Brian Friesen, brother Sylvester “Bob” Epp, and sister Eileen Janzen.
Graveside services are scheduled for 9:45 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Bethesda Mennonite Cemetery north of Henderson. Memorial services will follow at 10:30 a.m., at the Bethesda Mennonite Church with the Reverends Jim Voth and Ryan Goodroe officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-9:00 pm., Tuesday with her family greeting friends that same evening at the mortuary from 6:30 -8:30 p.m.. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Mennonite Church live-streaming fund or to the Henderson Care Center.
