Gerald "Jerry" F. Beaver
Gerald F. "Jerry" Beaver, 78, of York, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 at Grand Island. He was born on Oct. 8, 1924 in York, to Samuel and Julia (Hays) Beaver. He completed his elementary and secondary education at St. Ursule's Academy in York. He then attended Creighton University followed by two years in the United States Army. After his discharge from the Army, Jerry attended Montana University where he graduated with a law degree. He practiced two years in Montana before moving to York in 1954.
Jerry was married to Carmen Sullivan on Dec. 28, 1957 at Utica. He practiced law in York until his retirement in 1980. Following his retirement, he managed the family farm until it was sold in 1996. Jerry was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the American Legion Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Nebraska Bar Association and a former member of the York Elk's Club and the York VFW. He was also an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife Carmen of York; sons, Michael (Kris) Beaver of York and Steven Beaver of Lincoln; daughters, Jane (Keith) Johnson of Yorktown, Va., Jean (Tim) Gardner of York, Mary Beaver of Columbus, Diane Swanson of Plano, Texas, Julie (Robert) Warren of Omaha, and Kathy (Neal) Carson of Ord; 12 grandchildren; one brother, Commodore (Ninette) Beaver of Sun City, Ariz.; one niece and one nephew.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic in York with the Reverend Leo Seiker officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery at York. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Metz Mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to the family or St. Joseph's School. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m., Wednesday.
