Elizabeth Kwankin
Elizabeth Kwankin (nee David) passed away on June 22, 2018, at home in York, NE. Elizabeth was born on October 15, 1937 in Duggada, Garhwal, India. She attended school in northern India receiving both a Bachelors and Master degrees in English and Education.On January 25, 1960 she married Rev. Anderson “Andy” Kwankin in Duggada. They served in the mountains of northern India in Pithoragargh, where Andy started his ministry, and then in Agra, India, where Andy served at the Central Methodist Church, where they raised their family.
Elizabeth loved children and teaching. She was a teacher and then a Principal at Hollman Elementary School. Andy was a delegate to the United Methodist General Conference when he visited the United States and fell in love with Nebraska. In December 1977 the family moved to the U.S. and settled in North Bend, NE.
She moved numerous times accompanying Andy as he served churches over his 40-year career including North Bend, Cambridge, Stromsburg, Polk, McCool Jct, Allen and Lincoln all in Nebraska.
Elizabeth enjoyed nature and watching Gods creation especially birds -marveling over their many colors, shapes, and songs. She loved all types of music from classical music to Celtic and Laurence Welk tunes. Of most importance to her was her family, serving the Lord and fellowship with church friends and community. Elizabeth served on many church committees and was a regular participant of Bible study, enjoying her daily morning devotional which she did until the last day. She cherished and loved dearly her friends and family at McCool Junction UMC.
She is survived by her three sons Vinit Kwankin of Omaha, Alok and his wife Shalini Kwankin of Lincoln, Jyoti Kwankin of Grand Island, and one daughter Binita and her husband Joseph Hmieleski of Highland Park, IL. Her grandchildren include Nicholas Kwankin and Amber Kwankin of Omaha, Rena Kwankin and Raj Kwankin of Lincoln and great grandsons and great granddaughters Jasmine, Lucas, Kain, Sapphire and Lillian of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Andy, and sisters Nancy and Grace.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the McCool Junction United Methodist Church in McCool Junction, NE with the Reverend Ralph Gaines officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, York. Visitation will be from 1-8 Tuesday, with family greeting friends that evening from 6-8 at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may directed to Heifer International.
