Don Albert Norquest
Don Albert Norquest, age 82, of York, NE died Wednesday March 31, 2021 in York. Don was born August 16, 1938 in York, Nebraska to Albert Sidney and Rita Claire (Edwards) Norquest. Don was baptized and confirmed in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, McCool Jct., Nebraska. He attended District 73 and 23 rural schools, and graduated from McCool Junction High School in 1956.
Don enlisted in the Air Force in August of 1956 and attended basic training at Parks AFB California and the Tec School at FE Warren AFB at Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was stationed at Sondrestrom AFB in Greenland for one year, and was stationed at Lincoln AFB, was on Temporary Duty to Goose Bay Labrador and returned to Lincoln.
On July 27, 1958, Don married his high school sweetheart, Bernace Lee Swartz. Don was then transferred to Westover AFB, Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Don was discharged in August of 1960 and returned to York. He was employed by Geis Motor Company, later John Kohl Auto Center where he remained until his retirement.
Don enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially NASCAR and attending any sport that his grandkids were involved in and spending time with his family. Don loved adventures with his wife, travelling to all 50 states and took several trips to Hawaii and London, England.
Don is survived by his wife Bernace (Bee) of York, daughter Kathyrn (Randy) Barnes of York, son Timothy (Holly) Norquest of York, grandchildren: Eric (Karen) Barnes of O’Neill; Steven (Paige) Barnes of Haigler, David Norquest of Waco, Aaron Norquest, Hannah Norquest, brother Curtis and his friend Pam Maynard Norquest all of York, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandra Lynn, grandson Ryan Barnes, brother Jack Norquest and sister-in-law Barbara Norquest.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in McCool Jct, with Jim Germer, PMA officiating. Burial will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m., with his family greeting friends later that evening from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., at the mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or to his family for later designation.
