Dean L. Bay
Dean L. Bay, age 88 of York, NE, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at York. He was born July 15, 1925 at O’Neill, NE. He attended school in Hooper NE and graduated from Hooper High School. Following high school he enlisted in the US Navy where he was a member of the Seabees. While serving he participated in numerous island landings in the Pacific during WWII.
Dean was united in marriage to Joy Austin on June 8, 1947 at Oakland, NE. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Gregory and Melissa.
Returning from the service, Dean owned a dry cleaning plant, with a brother, in Hooper until 1961 when the family moved to York. He worked at Deluxe Cleaners in York until his retirement in 1988. Dean was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He served on the American Legion Honor Guard for 20 years. He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, and belonged to United Methodist Men. His pastimes included gardening, growing flowers, fishing, and watching sporting events of all kinds.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Joy; son Gregory Bay of York; daughter Melissa (Douglas) Heiden of York; grandchildren, Erich (Mary) Heiden, and their son Kyle of Benedict, NE and Denise (Joel) Barrow and their children Addison and Owen of Lincoln; brother Raymond (Karen) Bay of Littleton, CO; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, four brothers including twin brother, Gene.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in York with the Reverend Art Phillips officiating. Interment with military honors will be at York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-9 pm Sunday and 9 am-9 pm Monday at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the church or the donor’s choice.
