Darrel F. Henderson
Darrel F. Henderson, 81, passed away peacefully after a 28 year battle with heart disease on July 9, 2014.
He was currently living in Lincoln but was formerly of Scottsbluff and York. Darrel was born on Nov. 20, 1932 in Loup City to Melvin and Dolly Faye (Zigler) Henderson. He was a graduate of Loup City High School and attended Kearney State College.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1953-1955, and served his country proudly in Korea. He returned home to marry his true love, Bonnalynne B. Standage. This union lasted 55 years until Bonnalynne’s untimely death. To this union was born two daughters, Ronda and Robin.
He is survived by his daughters, Ronda and Jon Dawson and Robyn Henderson; grandsons, Brent Kieselhorst (Abby Brink) and Kyle Kieselhorst (Melissa Kelly) all of Lincoln; sisters Della Lane of Grand Island, Doris Jensen of York, Gladys Carstens of Cannon City, Colo. and Melva Hackbart of Lincoln; 19 nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Darrel was a proud member of the Elk’s, serving as Exalted Ruler, State President and various Grand Lodge appointments. He leaves behind many BPOE brothers and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and sister, Ellen June Casteel of Louisville.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014. Inurnment with military honors will take place at 9:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in York, followed by services at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 309 E. 7th in York. Visitation with family will take place on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Metz Mortuary, 109 S. Lincoln Ave., York.
Memorials may be directed to the Elk’s National Foundation or the family for later designation.
