Caroline Ruth James Esterling
Caroline Ruth James Esterling, age 87 of York, NE, passed away July 19, 2015 at York.
She was born to Seagfred and Lily (Nauenburg) Plugge on January 25, 1928 at the family home in Columbus, NE. On October 26, 1946 she was married to Robert L. James in Fremont, NE. The union was blessed with one son, Rodney Louis James. Robert and Caroline lived in Columbus until moving to York in 1955. They also lived several months in Amarillo and Delhart, TX and also in Ulysses, KS.
Caroline was married to Raymond Esterling on May 28, 1976 in Wenachee, WA. She later moved to York where she worked at the York Laundry until it closed. She also worked at several cafes in York including the York Legion Club.
She loved the great outdoors and going fishing. She also enjoyed crocheting, and made many doilies and afghans which she gave to family and friends. Caroline loved to read and do crossword puzzles and put together jigsaw puzzles. She was a longtime member of the York Eagle’s Auxiliary 3990.
Left to mourn her death are her sister Patricia (Lavern) Schafer of Carson, CA; one sister-in-law Ginger Plugge of Estacada, OR; one daughter-in-law Roberta James of Tripoli, IA; one great-granddaughter Gates R. James and her mother Cassaundra Ozburn of Williamsburg, MO; and two very dear friends, Mary Brown and Delwayne Epp of York. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son Rodney James; grandson Rodger James; six sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Metz Chapel in York. Interment will be that afternoon at 2:00 pm at Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus, NE. Visitation will be from 5-9 pm Thursday at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family.
