John Young

John R. Young, age 83, of York, NE, died Monday, October 13, 2008 at York. He was born on May 15, 1925 at rural Waco, NE to Claude and Ethel (Osborne) Young. He farmed in the Waco area for many years and was then employed at Sunflower Beef Packers until they closed. John was a veteran having served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York and was an avid gardener. John and Vivian Stuhr were united in marriage on July 29, 1950 at Waco, NE.

Left to cherish John’s memory are three sons: Jerry Young of York, Steven Young of Lincoln, NE and Jay (Janet) Young of Grand Island, NE; eight grandchildren: Chasity (Brett) Briese of Seward, NE; Marissa Young of Lincoln; Travis Young of Milford; Jama (Brian) Frei of Omaha, NE; Jason Young, Jordan Young, and Jacqueline Young all of Lincoln and Jillian Young of Omaha; one great-grandchild, Enver Frei of Omaha. Also surviving are three sisters: Virginia Campbell of Mesa, AZ, Alice James and Faye Young of Lincoln; nieces, nephews, and numerous other family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, and two brothers, Charles and Albert.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2008 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Military burial followed in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
