Charles Young

Charles “Chuck” W. Young age 86 of York, Nebraska died Friday, June 17, 2005 at Stromsburg. He was born May 2, 1919 near Waco, NE to Claude and Ethel (Osborn) Young and graduated from Waco High School in 1938. After high school Chuck enlisted in the National Guard and served in WW II. After the war he owned and operated the Jack and Jill grocery store in York for eight years before joining Sunset Bowl where he soon became the owner for over 40 years. He was also a rural mail carrier for over 30 years as well. On September 8, 1942 he was married to Doris A. Young at Las Vegas, NV.

He is survived by one daughter Jan and her husband Charlie Hurlbut of York. One granddaughter Lori and her husband Bill Day of Cheyenne, WY. Three step-grandchildren Kristi and her husband Bob Mills of Bellevue, NE, Amanda and her friend Bill Bassett of York, and Nick and his wife Shandra Hurlbut of Henderson. Two great grandchildren Ashley Day of Cheyenne, WY, Kristen Day also of Cheyenne, WY, One step- great grandson Christopher Bassett of York. Also surviving is one brother John Young of York, three sisters, Virginia and her husband Francis Campbell of Mesa, AZ., Alice James of Lincoln and Faye Young also of Lincoln. A sister in law Dorothy Thrapp of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 22nd at the Metz Chapel with burial in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
