Mathilde Wiemer
Mathilde Erks Wiemer (Suhr), age 97 of Waco, NE, died Tuesday, January 08, 2008 at the Fairview Nursing Home in Fairmont, NE. She was born December 7, 1910 to Carl and Botilda (Peterson) Suhr near Utica, NE. Mathilde was also fondly known by many as Tillie. She was baptized January 4, 1911 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Zagel. She attended Lutheran school and was confirmed June 1, 1924 by Rev. H.E. Meyer. She married Edwin Erks on April 24, 1932. To this union three sons were born, Eugene, Milton and Lester. Edwin passed away on February 10, 1960. In February of 1961 she was united in marriage to Martin F. Wiemer at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Waco. Martin and Mathilde moved to Waco in September of 1969. Martin passed away in May of 1970. Mathilde then joined the Peace Lutheran Church in Waco and remained an active and faithful member until her death. She was always seen working at all quilting activities, church socials and wherever else she was needed.
Mathilde’s favorite things to do were quilting, card playing and visiting with her family and friends. She was very proud of the fact that each of her seven children, all of her grandchildren and all of her great-grandchildren (up to the point when she was able to quilt) had in their possession one of her prized quilts. It was a common sight in her house in Waco to see one, and sometimes two, quilts being quilted and probably another one at the church where she quilted regularly.
She is survived by her step-son, Arlin (Mickey) Wiemer of York; step-daughters, Evelyn (Irvin) Haack of Benedict and Dorothy Blum of Washington State; step daughter-in-law, Eileen Wiemer of Utica; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands; sons, Eugene, Milton and Lester; daughter-in-law, Jeannine Erks; step-son, Harold Wiemer; step son-in-law, Norman Blum two granddaughters; and all of her siblings.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Peace Lutheran Church, Waco with the Reverend Chuck Ramsey officiating. Burial followed at the Utica Cemetery.
