Virginia Werth

Virginia M. Werth, age 88, of York, NE, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at York. She was born October 2, 1922, at Polk, NE to William M. and Lydia L. (Smith) Blender. She attended elementary school in Arborville and finished her education in the Polk school system.

Virginia married Arthur A. Werth on January 30, 1943 at Grand Island, NE and they made their home on a farm in the Arborville area. To this union one son, Roger, was born. Virginia and Art remained on the farm until Arthur’s death in 1976. Virginia moved to York and began working at the Hearthstone where she retired after 17 years. She enjoyed baking, sewing, playing cards and the piano. Virginia was a member of the Arborville Congregational Church and the Missionary Aid Society.

She is survived by her son Roger A. Werth and his wife Teresa of Bradshaw, NE; grandson Jeffrey Werth and his wife Lisa of Des Moines, IA; two step great-grandchildren, Tyler and Katie Spoon of Des Moines; brother, William L. Blender of Osceola, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Everett and Roy Blender, and a sister Marie Doremus.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the Arborville Congregational Church south of Polk, NE. Burial was in the Arborville Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Research or the Tabitha Foundation.
