Arleen Watt
Arleen Watt, 99, of York, died Friday, February 11, 2011 in Elkhorn, NE where she had been a resident for nearly 6 years at Marquis Place Assisted Living. She was born on a farm near Beaver Crossing, NE on July 24, 1911 and moved shortly after with her parents, George and Laura (Gard) Lunney to a farm just south of York. After graduating from York High School, she married Donald D. Watt when they eloped to Seward on June 3, 1931. They lived on a farm west of York and worked together farming beginning with the great depression years and continuing for nearly 35 years.
In 1961 the couple moved to Arbor Heights in York and began enjoying their passion of playing golf and the friends they made while doing so. In 1969 Don and Arleen began managing the York Country Club Pro Shop which they thoroughly enjoyed for 4 years.
Arleen lost her life long partner in February of 2003 after nearly 72 years of marriage. They were a duo. Arleen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Arleen is survived by her daughter, Soni (Rod) Anderson of Waterloo, NE and son, Terry (Judy) Watt of York. Also, surviving her, are four grandchildren - Pat (Kathy) Funk, Brush Prairie, WA; Scott (Nancy) Schlegelmilch, Elkhorn, NE; Susan (John) McAward, Durango, CO and Mark Watt of York, NE. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Gretchen Funk and Sarah and Todd D. Schlegelmilch. Arleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son, her brother, Wayne Lunney and one grandson, Todd A. Schlegelmilch.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in York. Burial was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
