Alice Watson
Alice P. Watson age 100 of York, NE died Monday, July 17, 2006 at York. She was born September 5, 1905 on a farm northwest of York to Elmer and Mary (Shapland) Jenkins. She attended country school and graduated from York High School. She also graduated from the York College Academy and then taught country school for 5 years. Alice was married to Earl W. Watson on May 19, 1929 in York. They lived on the farm until retirement in 1974. Alice was a member of the Shiloh Country Church and later a member of the East Avenue United Methodist Church in York. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and the Garden Club. She also volunteered at York General Hospital and helped with Meals on Wheels. Alice enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Maurice and his wife Pat Watson of Wooster, OH, daughters Nadine and her husband Dennis Southwick of Manhattan, KS and Janice and her husband Harvey Pickrel of Benedict, NE.
7 grandchildren which include Lori and her husband Zach Suddarth and Clark Pickrel all of York, Jackie Andrus of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Jeff and his wife Amy Watson of Wooster, OH, Graham and his wife Jenny Watson of Hillard, OH, Michelle Rutherford and her husband Jeff Freeborn of Manhattan, KS and Nicole Rutherford and her husband Chris Holmes of Saratoga, CA; 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister-in-law Helen Jenkins of Atlanta, GA. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, infant son, five brothers, two sisters, two nephews and four nieces.
Celebration of life services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 21, 2006 at the East Avenue United Methodist Church in York. Interment was at the York Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family
