Margaret Walkup

Margaret M. Walkup, age 79, of York, NE, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at York. She was born October 11, 1932 at Elmwood, NE to William and Martha (Luetchens) Vogt. Following high school Margaret attended and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University. She taught for several years in Central City. Margaret was married to Wendell Walkup on November 3, 1957 at Murdock, NE. The union was blessed with three children, Bill, Ross, and Linnea.

Margaret was a member of the former East Avenue United Methodist Church and currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in York. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school for many years as well. She served on the Epworth Board of Directors and belonged to W.I.F.E and the Crafty Ladies. Margaret was a camp counselor at one time and a softball coach. She enjoyed flowers, crocheting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren and attending their activities.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Wendell of York; sons, Bill (Kris) Walkup and Ross (Susan) Walkup of York; daughter Linnea Packard of York; grandchildren, Chelsea (Reg) Wittgren of Lincoln, Nicole Walkup of Huntsville, AL, Sean Walkup of York, Mikayla Walkup of Fremont, NE, Zack Packard of Chadron, NE, Mitch Walkup, Casey Walkup, and April Walkup all of York. Also surviving are four brothers, Bill Vogt of Syracuse, NE, Armin (Mary) Vogt of Lincoln, Elmer (Marietta) Vogt of Elmwood, and John (Kathy) Vogt of Springfield, OR; one sister Marie (Linnier) Backstrom of Lincoln; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lloyd, infant brother Richard, sisters-in-law Gwen Vogt and Joan Vogt.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in York. Interment was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
