William A. Walford

William Allen Walford age 77 of York, NE died Friday, March 27, 2009 in the presence of his family after a battle with cancer. He was born May 28, 1931 at the family farm near Gresham, Nebraska to William O. and Gertrude (Richter) Walford. He graduated from Gresham High School and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married Nancy C (Focht) Walford in Villisca, Iowa on July 22, 1956. Left to cherish his memory with Nancy are daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne (Brad) Johnson and granddaughter Katelyn of Lincoln, NE and son and daughter-in-law, William TR (Janet) Walford of Reno, NV; his sister Evelyn (Don) Jones of York, NE; brothers-in-law Thomas (Janice) Focht of Villisca, IA, William (Marie) Focht of Fenton, MO, and Richard (Sandra) Focht of Kansas City, MO; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his brother Wallace, mother Gertrude, father William, stepmother Jane Walford, and infant grandson Michael Johnson.

Bill retired from Nebraska Public Power District in 1994. During their 53 years together, Bill and Nancy traveled to all 50 states and 45 countries. They enjoyed their years of escorting the Fun Club. Bill was a past Exalted Ruler of the York Elks Club, member of American Legion Post #19, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Memorial services are scheduled for 3:00 pm, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in York with the Reverend Mike Eickhoff officiating. Private family inurnment. No viewing or visitation, as it was Bill’s wish to be cremated. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, Meals on Wheels, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
