Douglas Walford
Douglas A. Walford, age 75 of York, NE, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at York. He was born on September 9, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to Arthur A. and Beryl J. (Eales) Walford. He graduated from Gresham High School in 1950. He served his country during the Korean War, as a member of the United States Navy from 1952-1956. He served on the USS Sicily CVE 118 as a gunner's mate and later was awarded the Purple Heart. He taught cooking lessons in Lincoln and he has worked at the Chances “R” in York since 1985. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene in York.
On October 20, 1956 Douglas was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Thorne at the First Church of the Nazarene in York.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Dorothy of York; two sons: Jerry (Lori) Walford of Exeter, NE and Randy Walford and his fiancé Gail Lutz of Nebraska City, NE; and two daughters: Brenda (Scott) Farmer of Lincoln, NE and Deb (Todd) Henkel also of Lincoln. Also surviving is sister Kay Hobson of Lincoln, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in-law, and three brothers in-law.
Funeral services were Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the First Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend Stephen Sheets officiating. Military graveside services followed at York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
