Elmadene Walbrecht
Elmadene Walbrecht, age 90 of York, died at her home Sunday, January 28, 2007. She was born at Beatrice, NE on March 20, 1916 to Jess Earl and Florence Ethel (Powell) Eichhorn. She was a 1935 graduate of Beatrice High School and continued her education at Beatrice College. While in Beatrice, she was a member of the First Christian Church.
On July 12, 1938 Elmadene was united in marriage to Lawrence Tilley at Columbus, NE, where they made there home. They were members of the First Baptist Church in Columbus. Lawrence died on January 18, 1975. On October 9, 1981 Elmadene was united in marriage to Morris Forrest Walbrecht at Seward, NE and they made their home on the farm near McCool Junction, NE. Morris preceded her in death on October 12, 1997.
Elmadene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years serving as president for the Columbus chapter; a 63 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star serving as past Matron; she was past Guardian in Jobs Daughters and past president for the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. She was also a member of the York Fun Club, York Friendship Club, and McCool Garden Club. Elmadene was currently a member of the First Christian Church in York.
She is survived by her daughter Lida and her husband Robert Leech of Herndon, VA; one granddaughter Natalie and her husband Ian Catlett of Medford, MA; one grandson Jonathan Leech of Denver, CO; one great-granddaughter Charlotte Catlett of Medford; sister Ann Morris of Lincoln, NE and a nephew Steve Hike and his wife Kathy also of Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.
Services were held Friday, February 2, 2007 at the First Christian Church in York with the Reverend Ron Johnson officiating. Burial was at the Columbus Cemetery, Columbus, NE. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church in York.
