Elmer Tuepker
Elmer H. Tuepker, age 84 of York, NE, formerly of Gresham, NE, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at York. He was born May 3, 1925 at Gresham, NE to John and Bertha (Schneider) Tuepker. Elmer attended rural School District #72 through the 8th grade and graduated from Gresham High School in 1942. He entered the U.S. Army on April 2, 1945, serving in Okinawa, and was discharged December 22, 1946 as a Staff Sergeant. He attended Vocational Ag School in Gresham and did custom corn shelling.
Elmer was a member of St. Peters Church in Gresham where he held many offices over the years, a member of Davidson Neujahr Legion Post A. for over 60 years, a school board member of District 54 (served as president), a member of the Gresham Community Club, also serving as president. Elmer drove the Gresham school bus for many years, and also farmed and drove the tank wagon for Standard Oil Co. He worked for the State of NE as a Driver’s License Examiner until his retirement in 1988. He was the recipient of the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award. Elmer was very active in the Gresham community. He helped start the Youth Baseball Program and helped construct the tennis courts. He announced football and baseball games for many years. On May 3, 1952 Elmer and Lois Edmiston were united in marriage. The Lord blessed this union with two children, Judith (Judy) and James (Jim).
Due to failing eye sight, Elmer and Lois moved York in September 1998. In 1999, he transferred his membership to Faith Lutheran Church in York. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, counted cross stitch and working in his shop.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lois of York; daughter Judy and her husband Don White of Seward, NE; son Jim Tuepker and his wife Debra of Lexington, NE; three grandchildren, Jenny Tuepker of Keller, TX, Marcus Tuepker and his wife Michele of Shelburne, VT, and Danielle Tuepker of Kearney, NE. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Margaret Lindstrom of Wichita, KS and Janet Burgess of Pantego, TX; nieces, nephews and many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Faith Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Allen Bergstrazer officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Gresham. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., Thursday, and 9-9 Friday at Metz Mortuary, York. The family will greet friends 7-8:30 p.m., Friday evening.
