Stan Tompkins
Stan Tompkins, age 74 of York, died Wednesday at York. He was born June 15, 1929 at Cheyenne, WY. to LeRoy and Ethel (Slagle) Tompkins. Stan was a longtime Omaha and York area cattle buyer. He was a graduate of Iowa State University and was married to Alice Cody at Shenandoah, IA on September 28, 1952. He was an Army veteran of WWII and member of the American Legion Bolton Post #96. Stan was a member of the First United Methodist Church at York, and had served on the troop committee for Boy Scout Troop #174, was a member of York Masonic Lodge #56 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite and Shrine, Yorkshire Playhouse Board, and for 5 years served as Associate Guardian for Job’s Daughters at York.
Survivors include his wife Alice of York; son Russell and his wife Connie of Omaha; daughters Rita and her husband Don Ehly of Lincoln and Renee and her husband Richard Rook of Junction City, KS; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother Alan (Nancy) Tompkins of Aurora, NE and sister Doris (Max) Thielbar of Lincoln.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church at York with the Revs. Arthur Phillips and Jeff Wulf officiating. Military graveside services were at the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials are suggested to the church.
