Millie Toews

Susie “Millie” Toews, age 91 of York, died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at York. She was born September 26, 1913 at Bradshaw to Edward Gerhard and Vernie Maude (Bieshline) Otte. Millie grew up on the farm northwest of Bradshaw and went to country school Dist. 99 and graduated from Bradshaw High School in 1931. She married John D. Toews at Henderson on September 15, 1933. Millie was a housewife until her children graduated from high school and then worked for the Treasure House in York for 6 years and spent 19 years at DeLuxe Cleaners. She is survived by her children; Evelyn (Merlin) Volkmer of Shickley, Martha Toews of Lincoln and Allen (Kathleen) Toews of Warrenton, VA; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Maxine Carlson and Vernie Meinke both of York. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and sister Ruth.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in York with the Rev. Jeff Wulf officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at York. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-9 pm.
