Nellie Thorne

Nellie Marie Thorne, age 94 of York, NE died Thursday, February 11, 2010 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg, NE. She was born on November 19, 1915 to Zenith Oliver and Vivian May (Neel) Cross in rural Loup County near Taylor, NE. She moved with her parents to York at the age of four and has since always resided in York County. On August 30, 1932 she was married to Milford Elroy Thorne in Clay Center, NE. To this union, four children were born.

Nellie was a member of the New Life Church of the Nazarene for more than seventy years and served in many offices in the church over the years. She loved her Lord and Savior and served him to the best of her ability. Her faith was strong and she knew God as her personal Savior.

Nellie is survived by two sons: Gary (Lola) Thorne of Loveland, CO and Rexford (Ruth) Thorne of Casper, WY; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and her first great great granddaughter due in May. She is also survived by siblings: Peggy Sandoval of Albuquerque, NM; Zella (Thurman) Knull of Minneola, TX; Jim (Claudia) LaCalli of Houston, TX; and Beth Lenz of California; daughter-in-law Doris Thorne of Newport, OR; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Milford in September of 1994, two sons Richard and Roger, four brothers, three sisters, and one great grandson

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the New Life Church of the Nazarene with the Reverend Stephen Sheets officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, York. Memorials may be directed to The New Life Church of the Nazarene or the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
