Loren Thompson

Loren S. Thompson, Jr., age 70, of York, Nebraska, died Friday, January 1, 2010, in York. He was born October 30, 1939, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Loren S. and Ione (McPeek) Thompson. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1961 and served two years in the U.S. Army. Loren was a longtime York area businessman, owning and operating the True Value Hardware store for over 45 years. For a number of years he also served as a member of the Coast-to-Coast Board of Directors and as Vice-Chairman of the Coast-to-Coast/ServiceStar Board of Directors. Loren was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran church, having served on a number of committees, as well as several terms as Chairman of the Voters’ Assembly. He was a member of the of the City of York Planning Commission for over 20 years and also served as member of the York General Health Care Services Board of Directors. On December 29, 1963, he was married to Jane R. Foster at York.

He is survived by his wife Jane of York, two sons, Michael and his wife Michele Thompson of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Stephen and his wife Heather Thompson of Lincoln, Nebraska; his grandchildren include Jackson, Sawyer and Caroline Thompson all of Elkhorn. He is also survived by a brother, Richard and his wife Janet Thompson of Edmund, Oklahoma. Other local survivors include his father-in-law, A. Hubert Foster of York and his brothers-in-law, William P. and his wife Sandee Foster of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Richard T. Foster of York. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, with the Reverend Mike Neidow officiating. Burial was in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church or to York General Health Care Services.
