Rachel Thomas

Rachel Unruh Thomas who was born December 15, 1915 at Montezuma, Kansas was the twelfth child of fourteen born to Peter P. Unruh and Lena Jantz Unruh in a four room sod house. She graduated from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 6, 2007 reaching the age of 91 years, 4 months and 21 days.

She was united in marriage to Frank G. Thomas on August 17, 1941. Together they had four children: Frank Devon, Ronald Neal, Grace Ann and Julie Marie.

Rachel completed eight years of school and then waited until she was 19 years of age to start high school. She attended high school at Oklahoma Bible Academy. During this time she gained assurance of her salvation and promise of eternal life (Ephesians 2: 8 & 9 and I John 5:13). Trusting God to supply her needs she worked her way through high school organizing meals for the students. Her love of cooking and organizational skills continued throughout her life as a pastor’s wife, dietician and restaurant owner. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and cooking. She prided herself in being self-sufficient using her own produce for cooking.

She is survived by her husband Frank of Henderson, children: Frank Devon (Jacqueline) Thomas of St. Joseph, Missouri, Ronald Neal (Carol) Thomas of Henderson, Grace Ann Thomas (Marty) Lorenz of Pensacola, Florida and Julie Marie Thomas (Mark) Butner of Marshall, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one brother. Preceding her in death were her parents, five brothers and seven sisters.

The family wishes to express their thanks for prayers, cards and visits. A special thanks to the Henderson Care Center for their loving care for our Mom during the past year and for your special concern these last few weeks. We also convey our gratitude to Asera Hospice for their attention to Mom’s needs during the last days of her life. May God richly bless you.

Funeral services were held May 9, 2007 at the Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Henderson. Interment was in the Faith Evangelical Bible Church Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Grace Missions in Henderson, NE for short-term mission trips.
