Melva Thomas

Melva Thomas, age 76 of York, died Monday, January 10, 2005 at Lincoln. She was born in Nemaha County, NE on December 17, 1928 to Fred and Angie (Woods) Vice. Melva was married to Fred W. Thomas at Seneca, KS on October 3, 1947 and they have been married for 57 years having moved to York in 1954. She was a member of the Nazarene Church in York where she had been a longtime Sunday school teacher and choir leader. Melva worked for many years at the Kaeding Market in York and later had Mel’s Upholstery and then drove pilot car for her husband. She enjoyed bowling until her arthritis made her unable to bowl.

Melva is survived by her husband Fred of York; 5 sons, Fred L. (Jean) of Thayer, Phil (Ruth) of Home, KS, Ron of Beatrice, Warren (Laurie) of York and Ken (Angie) with the US Navy in Washington State; 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers; Noel (Vera) Vice and Lloyd (Bobbi) Vice all of York and 3 sisters, Gerty (Raymond) Rison, Deloris (Lyman) Georges and Angie Bentzinger all of York. Preceding her in death were her parents, son Paul, brothers, Floyd, Lester & Ellis and sisters, Gleatha, Esther and Phyllis.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 14, 2005 at the Nazarene Church. Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery at York. Memorials may be directed to the family.
