Ronald Tewll
Ronald Vernon Tewell age 74 of Stromsburg, NE died Friday, August 28, 2009 at Osceola, NE. He was born August 17, 1935 in Clay County, NE to Hiram Preston and Frances Mary (George) Tewell. In early 1941 his parents purchased a farm west of Stromsburg, NE where Ronald went to country school before graduating from Stromsburg High School in 1953. For a while Ronald helped on the family farm and also helped out at the local grocery store. In December of 1958 he entered military service, serving in the United States Army. He trained at Ft Riley, Kansas and served his duty in Germany. He received an early Honorable Discharge from the 21st Infantry and came home to farm once again in 1960.
Ronald and his father farrowed hogs and raised baby pigs as many of his hours were spent doing chores and working hard on the farm. In 1962 he opened “Tewell’s Gun Shop” in a garage. Many long hours were spent repairing and selling guns before he retired in April of 2009 when he sold his business. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the Central City Sportsman Club where he prospered in trap shooting contests during the 1960’s into the 90’s. He enjoyed shooting at the Waco Trap Range, the Central City Sportsman Club and the Isaac Walton League north of York. He was also a member of the Polk County Wildlife Club, Ruger’s Collector’s Association Inc and the Polk County Farm Bureau.
Ron is survived by his twin sister Roberta Headley of Lakewood, CO and her children: daughter Kimberly K Headley and son Jaysen Headley of Lakewood, CO; son Gerald and his wife Sandra Headley of Larkspur, CO, son Jay and his wife Brenda Headley also of Larkspur, CO and son Patrick and his wife Judy Headley of High Land Ranch, CO and their Sarah and Melissa.
He is also survived by his sister Marian K. and her husband Dean James of Stella, NE and their children Larry D. James of Stella, NE and his special friend Cora Flynn of Auburn, NE; son Bradley L. and his wife Susan James also of Stella, NE and their children Caitlin James and Colton James; daughter Susan M. Joy and her husband Mark and their children include Spenser Joy of Springfield, MO, Marshal Joy of Humboldt, NE and Sierra Joy also of Humboldt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother in law John Headley.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Metz Chapel in York with the Reverend Pat Norris officiating. Military graveside services will then follow in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Stromsburg Rescue Squad, Tabitha Hospice, or the American Cancer Society. Visitation begins after 5:00 pm Wednesday evening.
