Carl Sward

Carl Reuel Sward age 59 of York, NE died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Lincoln. He was born May 13, 1947 at Stromsburg, NE to Reuel C. and Ruth Shalberg Sward. Carl attended the Columbus Opportunity Center as a youth and later became a client at Mosaic in York where he remained until his death. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Stromsburg but attended the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Carl participated in the Special Olympics as a bowler for 15 years. He enjoyed working with his hands, reading magazines, dancing and playing ‘UNO Attack’. He loved to socialize and especially enjoyed his church where he attended faithfully.

He is survived by two sisters, Miriam Sward of Omaha, NE and Elaine and her husband Steve Spady of York; niece Stephanie Spady of Brooklyn, NY and nephew Andrew Spady of Lincoln. Also surviving is his Mosaic family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Annette.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Revs. Mike Neidow and Tim Marshall officiating. Burial was in the Swede Home Cemetery near Stromsburg, NE. Memorials may be directed to Mosaic or Salem Lutheran Church.
